JOHANNESBURG: Hashim Amla, the former top-ranked South African batter, rated Pakistan’s Mohammad Asif as the most challenging bowler he faced.
Amla stated that Asif was a magician with the ball while speaking to Mark Nicholas before the fourth day of the second Test between South Africa and India.
“Asif troubled me the most. He was a magician with the ball. A beautiful bowler to watch, but not so good to face,” Amla said.
“He was the toughest to face. I’d set myself up for an inswinger and he’d beat me on the outside edge. I’d prepare for an outswinger, and he would beat my inside edge and clip the bails, bowling me out,” Amla concluded.
Asif represented Pakistan in 23 Tests and 38 ODIs; picking up 106 and 46 wickets respectively.
