GLASGOW: Pakistan’s Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem expressed confidence ahead of the Commonwealth Games 2026 javelin final.
Arshad finished seventh among 18 athletes with a throw of 78.63 meters in the qualifying round. He registered the mark in his final attempt. Although he fell short of the automatic qualifying standard, his best effort was enough to comfortably secure a place among the top 12 athletes advancing to Friday’s final.
Speaking to the media after the qualifying round, Arshad highlighted challenging conditions in Glasgow.
“The weather in Glasgow is much colder than in Pakistan,” he said.
He expressed confidence in delivering a strong performance in the final and reiterated his pride in representing Pakistan.
“It was an exciting competition. I’m hopeful of delivering a strong performance for Pakistan,” he added.

“Representing Pakistan always brings me great joy. I love my country dearly, and I will continue to represent it for as long as I can.”
Arshad admitted he was not at his best due to conditions, saying his main target had been to qualify for the final.
“I wasn’t at my best today. The headwind was very strong, but my main objective was to qualify for the final. Now the focus is on tomorrow,” he continued.
The 29-year-old said the cold weather required him to keep exercising to stay warm.
“In Pakistan, the hot weather helps you warm up naturally. Here, because it’s cold, you have to keep moving and exercising to stay warm,” he revealed.
The qualification event proved demanding for the entire field, with a strong headwind preventing athletes from producing their best distances.
“We’ll see what the weather is like in the final tomorrow. The wind was blowing straight towards us, so the javelin was drifting in the opposite direction. I’ll give my best and hope to produce my best throw in the final,” he concluded.
