LAHORE: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has introduced padel at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), establishing dedicated courts to enhance players’ fitness during long training camps.
High-Performance Director Aqib Javed revealed details of the initiative while speaking to a private channel, saying that players will enjoy the sport alongside their cricket training without the need to travel elsewhere.
“Previously, players had to travel to play padel, but that is no longer the case. We want to provide an environment and facilities during long camps that help improve the players’ overall performance,” he said.
Aqib highlighted the importance of other sports in improving cricketers’ fitness and fielding, saying that padel will be compulsory every alternate day.
“It is not necessary for players to only play cricket during long camps. Padel will be compulsory every alternate day. The sport improves fitness, while its movement patterns are directly linked to fielding, making it highly beneficial for cricketers,” he explained.

He also informed that they are currently setting up game rooms with snooker and other indoor games, such as basketball, to enhance players’ overall development.
“Basketball will also benefit cricketers, and we are establishing game rooms featuring snooker and other indoor games. Around the world, professional athletes do not only play their primary sport; they also participate in other sports and activities that contribute to their overall development,” Aaqib said.
It is worth mentioning that Padel growth is evident across the globe, particularly in Pakistan, in recent years. The sport is a rare blend of enjoyment and fitness, making it an attractive training option for athletes from different disciplines.
Earlier, the Pakistan team arrived in the West Indies for a two-match Test series. Babar Azam will lead the side, with the series opener at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba from July 25 to 29, and the second Test at the Queen’s Park Oval in Port of Spain from August 2 to 6.
