QUEENSLAND: Former Australian all-rounder and two-time World Cup winner Andrew Symonds passed away after a tragic car accident here on Saturday.

Symonds, aged 46, who represented Australia in 238 matches during a prolonged career of 11 years that spanned from 1998 to 2009, has passed away following a car accident.

The Queensland Police has started the investigation of the former all-rounder’s car crash and demise, and claimed that it appeared to be ‘a single vehicle incident’.

The accident happened on Saturday night in Hervey Range, 50 kilometres outside Townsville, according to the police. According to a police statement, “Symonds’ car left the road and rolled, and it was a single vehicle accident.”

“Emergency services attempted to revive the 46-year-old driver and sole occupant, however, he died of his injuries,” the police statement added.

Cricket Australia, on the other hand, took to Twitter and stated that they are shocked and saddened by the loss of their loveable all-rounder.

“Vale Andrew Symonds. We are shocked and saddened by the loss of the loveable Queenslander, who has tragically passed away at the age of 46,” the tweet read.

 

It is pertinent to mention here that Symonds won two world cups with team Australia in 2003 and 2007. He was also a key part of Australia’s triumph in the Ashes 2006-07.
