Agar, Rashid power Strikers to victory in Big Bash League

ADELAIDE: Adelaide Strikers’ bowlers annihilated Melbourne Renegades’ batting line-up, dismissing them for 149, in the sixth match of Big Bash League, here on Thursday.

Batting first, the Strikers were off to a decent start, their openers started superbly, adding 34 runs for the first wicket before Jake Weatherald dismissed on eight.

The wickets began to fall at a consistent pace and the Strikers, eventually, bundled out for 149. Matthew Short scored 32 off 17 balls, including three sixes and a boundary, while Jonathan Wells, top-scored with 37 off 30 balls, including two sixes.

For Renegades, Kane Richardson was the pick of the bowlers, taking four wickets, whereas Reece Topley took three wickets. However, Zahir Khan and James Pattinson took two and a wicket, respectively.

Chasing 150, Renegades too, were off to a decent start as their openers laid good foundation for the chase by recording 39-runs opening partnership.

Following the departure of Mackenzie Harvey, wickets began to tumble at an alarming rate Sam Harper, however, showed resistance, but, he too fell short. In the end, Renegades, bowled out for a skimpy 100, losing the match by 49 runs.

Harvey scored 19 off 12 balls, including three boundaries, followed by the top-scorer for the side, Harper, who scored 33 off 31 laced with a boundary and as many sixes.

Wes Agar starred for the Strikers, picking up three wickets for just 17 runs, while Rashid Khan too, was impressive for his two wickets for as many runs. Daniel Worrall also bagged two wickets. Whereas, George Garton and Peter Siddle shared onw wicket apiece.
