MELBOURNE: Uninterrupted rain has forced the Group 1 fixture of the ICC T20 World Cup 2022 between Afghanistan and Ireland to be called off without a ball being bowled, here on Friday.
The same venue will host England and Australia for the second match of the day.
Following the match abandonment, both teams were awarded a point each. Ireland move to the second in the table with three points while Afghanistan still sit at the bottom of Group 1 with two points in the Super 12 round.
Afghanistan will now face Sri Lanka in their next group match on November 1 (Tuesday) in Brisbane whereas Ireland will compete against the hosts Australia on Monday.
The top two teams of the group will qualify for the semifinals which are scheduled on November 9 and 10, respectively.
