Holder’s all-round exploits help Samp Army thump Team Abu Dhabi

ABU DHABI: Jason Holder scored an unbeaten 29 off 10, then followed it with brilliant bowling figures of 3-12 to help Morrisville Samp Army defeat Team Abu Dhabi by 35 runs in the Abu Dhabi T10 League at Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

Morrisville Samp Army after being invited to bat first lost their first wicket in the second over as Ibrahim Zadran (17) was dismissed by Rumman Raees.

Skipper Moeen Ali soon followed Zadran in the next over while Faf du Plessis attacked Team Abu Dhabi bowlers from his end before getting run out at a total of 51.

Faf du Plessis scored 29 runs off 11 balls with the help of one boundary and three sixes.

Karim Janat played a 29-run cameo of 13 balls before getting out in the last over with 99 runs on the board.

Jason Holder then finished the innings in style with three sixes on the last three balls to push the team’s total to 118-5 in their 10 overs.

Tymal Mills led the bowling charts for Team Abu Dhabi with figures of 2-24, while Roelof van der Merwe and Rumman Raees picked one wicket each.

In response, Team Abu Dhabi had a horrible start as they lost their first wicket on the first ball of the innings.

Alex Hales then got out stumped in the next over bowled by Peter Hatzoglou.

Samp Army skipper Moeen Ali in his first over picked two wickets to leave the opponents struggling at 37-5 in the fourth over.

Tom Banton was the first victim of Ali after scoring 16 off 9, while Colin Ingram was stumped after scoring two runs.

Team Abu Dhabi failed to recover from the early setbacks and slipped to 63-8 in eight overs after Jason Holder’s two-wicket over.

Dwaine Pretorius scored 15 before getting caught behind, while Van der Merwe suffered a similar fate two balls later.

Alishan Sharafu remained unbeaten at 18 off 15 but failed to get his team to the target as Team Abu Dhabi finished with 83-8 in their 10 overs.

Holder picked three wickets, while Moeen Ali got two.

With this loss, Team Abu Dhabi sank to the bottom of the Abu Dhabi T10 League points table with three losses in three games.
