Amir’s four-fer guides New York Strikers to victory over Chennai Braves

ABU DHABI: Mohammad Amir returned with impressive bowling figures of 4-7, followed by Asif Ali’s 23 off 13 to guide New York Strikers to a five-wicket victory over Chennai Braves in the 23rd Abu Dhabi T10 League match at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

New York Strikers jumped to the top of the Abu Dhabi T10 League points table with five victories from six matches.

Strikers opted to bowl first after winning the toss and Amir proved the decision right as his first over saw four wickets falling, which reduced Chennai Braves to 6-4.

Kobe Herft got run out before Amir got three caught-behind wickets during the same over.

Jason Roy and Sikandar Raza then knitted a 30-run partnership before Narine dismissed the latter at a total of 36.

Amir then returned to attack and castled settled batter Roy to dent Chennai Braves’ recovery.

Jason Roy top-scored with 18 runs from 16 balls including a solitary boundary.

Mohammad Nabi and Aayan Afzal Khan then scored 13 each to help drag the team’s total to 75 at the loss of nine wickets in their accumulative ten overs.

Amir topped the bowling charts with his four wickets while Narine and Muhammad Jawadullah picked one wicket each.

However, Strikers had a horrible start to their chase as Sam Cook sent both of their opening batters back within the first three balls of the innings.

Muhammad Waseem and Mark Deyal added 29 off 20 before Mohammad Nabi removed the former to reduce the Strikers to 30-3.

Deyal was then dismissed by Junaid Siddique after scoring 19 off 18.

Asif Ali held on to his end and scored an unbeaten 23 runs from 13 balls with one boundary and one six to help his team chase the target with nine balls to spare.

Cook and Siddique picked two wickets each for Chennai Braves.
