Zadran’s blitz powers Morrisville Samp Army to edge Delhi Bulls

ABU DHABI: Jason Holder and Salman Irshad picked three wickets each before Najibullah Zadran’s last-over heroics guided Morrisville Samp Army to a four-wicket win over Delhi Bulls in a thrilling Abu Dhabi T10 League clash at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium.

This was Delhi Bulls’ first loss in the ongoing edition of the Abu Dhabi T10 League, who are sitting at the top of the points table, followed by Samp Army.

Morrisville Samp Army opted to bowl first and gained an early advantage with the wicket of Johnson Charles in the third over at a total of 19.

Quinton de Kock was the next batter to depart after scoring 11 off 9 in the fifth over with 44 runs on the board.

James Vince then played a 14-ball knock of 24 runs for Delhi Bulls but Qais Ahmed ended his brief stay on the pitch.

Samp Army’s Salman Irshad then dismissed Rovman Powell (19) and Rilee Rossouw (8) in the span of three balls to further halt the Bulls’ progress.

Delhi Bulls failed to recover from there and ended up scoring a meagre 95-8 in their ten overs as Irshad picked his third wicket on the final ball of the innings.

Irshad and Jason Holder picked three wickets each, whereas Moeen Ali and Qais Ahmed managed one scalp each.

Samp Army further slipped to 14-2 in the next over with the wicket of Moeen Ali, who got caught off Wasim Akram’s first ball of his spell.

Andries Gous and Faf du Plessis then knitted a 47-run partnership from 26 balls, however, Fazalhaq Farooqi removed them both in the same over to dent Samp Army’s pursuit.

Gous scored 20 off 13 with the help of one boundary and one six, while Du Plessis played a quick knock of 30 runs from 17 balls, featuring three sixes and one four.

Dwayne Bravo picked back-to-back wickets of Karim Janat and Holder in the ninth over to keep the Bulls in the match.

However, Najibullah Zadran (25) held on to his nerves and hit 12 off four balls in the final over to finish the match in style.

Bravo and Farooqui topped the wickets chart for Delhi Bulls with two wickets each.
