DUBAI: West Indies left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican was crowned ICC Men’s Player of the Month for January 2025, owing to his brilliant performance in the Test series against Pakistan.
The ICC Player of the Month award recognizes outstanding individual performances on the international stage. The nominees for January were all spinners who excelled across various formats.
Warrican faced tough competition from his Pakistani counterpart Noman Ali as well as India’s mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy.
Warrican delivered a career-best performance and helped the West Indies draw the two-match away Test series against Pakistan.
In the first Test, he claimed career-best bowling figures of 10/101 and scored an unbeaten 31*. Meanwhile, in the second Test, he took four wickets in the first innings and followed up with a five-wicket haul in the second, bringing his match figures to an impressive 9/70.

In addition to his wickets, he contributed 54 runs as West Indies secured a victory in the second Test, ensuring the series ended in a draw.
Overall, Jomel Warrican scored 85 runs at an average of 42.50 and claimed nine wickets at an exceptional average of nine, earning him the Player of the Series award.
“It’s an honour to win this award,” Warrican said after winning the award. “One of my goals for this year was my first five-for in Test cricket, but I did not think that it would be this grand.”
“I see this as one small step in my cricketing career, and I look forward to many more. I promised my captain something special in this series, especially when my father, my biggest supporter, predicted a phenomenal performance for me.
