PALMA DE MALLORCA: Ghana forward Inaki Williams slotted home a late penalty and powered Athletic Club to hold RCD Mallorca for a 1-1 stalemate in their La Liga fixture on Monday.
The experienced striker started for Athletic Club in their Round of 32 clash with the 12th-placed Mallorca before slotting gold in the injury time.
With three vital points at stake, the two teams went hard at each other in the first half and came close to scoring an opener but neither succeeded in taking the lead before the break.
The hosts came up filled with momentum after the break and soon got the reward in the form of a 58th-minute goal by Lee Kang-In.
The visitors, however, did well to recover from conceding and soon got themselves going but could not fire an equalizer in the regulation time.
The seventh-placed Athletic Club were eyeing an upset defeat from the home side until Williams was awarded a penalty strike, six minutes into the injury time.
The Ghana forward made sure to safely deposit it into the nets and aided his side to settle at a 1-1 stalemate with Mallorca.
In another La Liga fixture on Monday, better-ranked Girona breezed past Sevilla 2-0 with Juanpe and Valentine Castellanos scoring for the visitors.
