MULTAN: Sindh pacer Sohail Khan decimated Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s (KP) batting line-up before openers Sharjeel Khan and Saim Ayub laid a solid foundation for the run chase in the final to power their side to the maiden National T20 Cup title.
Set to chase a paltry 141 in the final, Sindh comfortably steered to the glory in the 15th over for the loss of just two wickets.
Sindh’s opening pair of Saim and Sharjeel gave the side a flying start as they amassed 70 runs for the first wicket at a rapid pace.
The duo appeared solid and was cruising Sindh to a flawless 10-wicket victory before Mohammad Sarwar provided a much-needed breakthrough to KP as he removed Saim in his first over.
The left-handed young batter scored 36 off 24 deliveries, laced with four boundaries and two sixes.
Following Saim’s dismissal, Sharjeel then joined hands with skipper Saud Shakeel and further carried the proceedings for Sindh till the 12th over before the former fell to Arshad Iqbal after scoring a magnificent half-century.
Sharjeel top-scored for Sindh with a brilliant knock of 53 off 36 balls with the help of four boundaries and as many sixes.
Omair Yousuf and Saud then put on a match-winning 32-run partnership and made sure to drive their side to their maiden National T20 Cup title. Omair scored a quickfire 21* off a mere 12 deliveries, while Saud remained unbeaten with an anchoring 18 off 16.
For KP, only Sarwar and Arshad managed to claim a wicket apiece.
Batting first, the Sohail-led Sindh bowling attack bowled out KP on a paltry total of 140 in the final of the National T20 Cup 2022.
Sohail was the pick among the bowlers for Sindh as he bagged four wickets for a mere 18 runs, while Mir Hamza and Asif Mehmood claimed two wickets each. Leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood, on the other hand, made one scalp.
Rehan Afridi, KP’s opening batsman, put up a fight with a tough 43-run inning, while Sarwar produced a quick 30-run innings in the middle. However, the rest of their batters were unable to make a big impact with the bat in the final, and KP was bowled out for a meagre 140.
