DUBAI: Pakistan team batting coach Muhammad Yousuf asserted that his side was focused on the overall Asia Cup win and not just on a single match between India and Pakistan.
Speaking to the media, following the team’s practice session at the ICC Academy, Yousuf stated the first day of the team’s training ahead of the Asia Cup was tremendous.
“Despite the extreme heat, the boys have put their maximum effort into the practice,” he said. “The players are passionate and we are planning the session, keeping the tournament in front of us,” he added
When asked for his comments on Sunday’s blockbuster encounter between the arch-rivals India and Pakistan, Yousuf replied that the focus of his team was not just on a particular match but on the overall tournament.
“We have to win this Asia Cup. All (players) are focused, disciplined and looking towards the whole tournament and not just the match against India” he said.
Furthermore, the batting coach lauded the national team skipper Babar Azam for striking a balance between his captaincy and consistent batting performances while calling him a great batsman of recent times.
“Babar Azam is a great batsman. His consistency with the bat is fairly obvious, the way he has been performing over the last three years” he said. “Besides, he also cooperates with the players immensely” he added.
It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan will start their Asia Cup campaign on Sunday with the much-anticipated encounter against India.
