NOTTINGHAM: After testing positive for Covid-19 on the eve of the match, New Zealand’s captain Kane Williamson will not be part of the second Test against England, which begins on Friday here at Trent Bridge.
Wicket-keeper batter Tom Latham batter will captain the team in his absence, confirmed Gary Stead, New Zealand’s head coach.
Williamson was ruled out of the match as he tested positive in the Rapid Antigen test (RAT) for corona after facing minor symptoms on Thursday. He will now be isolating himself for five days as per protocols.
New Zealand’s left-handed batter Michael Bracewell is likely to receive the Test cap in the second encounter against England.
Latham has already captained New Zealand earlier in the home Test series against Bangladesh and South Africa last year. He also led his team in the second test of their tour of India in November after Williamson faced an injury before the match.
It is pertinent to mention here that England has been leading the series 1-0 against New Zealand after defeating the visiting side in the first Test at Lord’s.
