LONDON: England’s 2017 World Cup hero Anya Shrubsole has decided to bid adieu to her 14-year international career, here on Thursday.
A two-time world cup winner, who led her side to a famous and dramatic victory in the final of the 2017 Women’s World Cup against India at the back of astonishing record figures of 6-46 at Lord’s.
The right-arm pacer, who represented England in 173 international matches, took 227 wickets. She also lists fourth in the list of England’s ODI wicket-takers and is the current top IT20 wicket-taker of the country.

In a statement, released by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), Shrubsole stated she feels immensely proud to be able to represent her country for 14 years.
“I feel immensely privileged to have been able to represent my country for the past 14 years,” the statement read.
“Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be lucky enough to play for England for so long, I’d have been happy with one game. There have been many ups and downs along the way but it was all worth it to be able to lift the ICC Women’s World Cup at Lord’s in 2017,” the statement quoted her saying.
It is pertinent to mention here that England finished as the runners-up in the recently concluded ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 as Australia defeated the home side by 31 runs. Shrubsole picked three wickets in her last international game.
