DUBAI: International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced in-match penalties to avoid slow over-rates in T20 Internationals.
According to the new rule, teams failing to complete 20 overs in the given time, one fewer fielder will be permitted outside of the 30-yard circle for the remaining overs of the innings.
Popular cricket statistician Mazher Arshad explained this rule on his Twitter account.
“If we were supposed to end at say 9.30 pm and they are at 17.3, the remaining overs will be with just 4 fielders outside the circle,” he wrote.
“It means the overs remaining after the time has run out will be under penalised field restrictions.

The world’s cricket governing body believes that this new rule will be effective in completing overs in the given time.
