COLOMBO: Niroshan Dickwella and Phil Salt partnered strongly to help Dambulla Giants defeat Kandy Warriors by 20-runs in the second match of Lanka Premier League, here at R Premadasa Stadium, on Monday.
Dickwella and Salt smoked 97 runs together as the Giants amassed a massive 190-run total in the allotted 20 overs. Salt smashed 64 runs off 27 balls including four boundaries and five maximums, while Dickwella scored 37 off 23 balls, including six boundaries.
Later, Ramesh Mendis struck out quickfire 22 of 11, including a boundary and two maximums to help the Giants finish strongly in the first inning.
For Warriors, Lahiru Kumara bagged three wickets, while Al-Amin Hossain claimed two. Whereas, Rovman Powell and Sachindu Colombage each struck out a batter.
As a result, Warriors batters were a little too slow in the run-chase. After losing three wickets for just 28 runs, the skipper – Angelo Perera and Powell attempted to fight back but fell short of bringing their team home. Warriors were eventually restricted to 170 in their allotted 20 overs.
Colombage scored 27 followed by highest run-scorer of the side, Powell with 42 runs.
Nuwan Pradeep and Mendis each claimed three wickets. Whereas, Dasun Shanaka and Imran Tahir claimed one wicket apiece.
