MELBOURNE: T20 World Cup-winning captain Jos Buttler credited England’s Tour of Pakistan in September and October as a key part of their journey to win the recently-concluded ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
Buttler, in an exclusive interview with ESPN Cricinfo, commented on England’s journey and T20 World Cup 2022 glory before terming England’s tour of Pakistan for the seven-match T20I series a really good tour for the entire squad.
“I’d say the Pakistan tour – for the group, not just myself and the coach but for everyone involved, just seemed like a really good tour,” Buttler said.
“Lots of bonds were built, and I thought we got back to playing some really good cricket there. It takes a bit of time to get to know people well and get to feel comfortable, and there’s so much talent in the group that, as soon as we feel comfortable, we’re a dangerous team,” he added.
It is pertinent to mention that despite the absence of their regular captain Buttler, opener Jonny Bairstow and all-rounders Ben Stokes and Liam Livingstone, England edged Pakistan 4-3 to win the seven-match series.
The two sides then met in the recently-concluded T20 World Cup 2022 Final, where Buttler’s men once again sank Pakistan to lift their second T20 title.
