Asif escapes suspension, may get charged with minor penalty: Sources

DUBAI: Pakistan hard-hitting batter Asif Ali avoided a major penalty as he might end up getting charged with a portion of a match fee and a warning for his conduct following an unpleasant episode of the quarrel with an Afghan bowler on Wednesday during the Asia Cup match.

According to the sources, Match Referry Andy Pycroft took notice of the misconduct by both the players involved in the brawl with bowler Fareed Ahmed also found provocative in his attitude towards the batsman.

Asif might get penalized with a portion of match fee along with a warning for his inappropriate behaviour and flashing his bat at the bowler.

International Cricket Council (ICC) will announce the official decision in this regard later today.

The middle-order batter lost his cool on the Afghan bowler after Fareed hurled an abusive spat over Asif following his dismissal in the 19th over during crunch moments of the game.

It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan edged past Afghanistan in a final-over nail-biter courtesy of two astounding sixes from Pakistan pacer Naseem that powered the side into the final of Asia Cup 2022.
